Paola Torres Nuñez del Prado PE

Peruvian multimedia artist, researcher and curator

Paola works with textile assemblages and embroideries, sound, digital media, interactive art, and video. She aims to generate trans-sensory experiences that serve as tools to question cultural clashes and expose the hierarchies of our social structures. Ripped fabrics and soft sculptures tell us stories that have remained incomplete, unreadable. Torres gives them voice by embedding them back in textile frameworks whose looms, subsequently automated, served to inspire the first computer model. Through the emphasis on the designs that encode memories since immemorial times in patterns, Torres refers to the structure of the mind beyond culture; to the physical brain configuration that is shared by us all. Paola Torres Nuñez del Prado holds an M.A. from The Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm and an undergraduate degree in Studio Art at Hunter College, City University of New York. She has exhibited her work in countries such as the United States, Sweden, Peru, Brazil and Italy, and has curated art projects in Lima, Cuzco, New York and Stockholm.
