Sabrina Ratté CA

Montréal and Paris-based video artist

Inspired by the relationship between visual art and electronic music and the schisms between digital realms and lived environments, Sabrina Ratté builds abstract virtual worlds generated by analog technologies. In video synthesis, video feedback and 3D animation, she uses electronic light as raw material, sculpting and painting it into luminous and vibrating architectures. Ratté holds a Masters in Film Production from Concordia University and has expanded her screen-based work through experiments in video art, 3D animation, installation and live performance, emphasizing the shifting emotional identities of screen-based environments in flux between the real and virtual. She joined electronic musician-producer Roger Tellier-Craig’s Le Révélateur in 2010, turning his solo project officially into a digital and analog audiovisual duo of abstract architectural structures and pulsing neon electronic landscapes—in constant dialogue with Tellier-Craig’s ethereal, futuristic sounds. Represented by Laffy Maffei Gallery in Paris and Ellephant Gallery in Montréal, Ratté has also presented her work in numerous exhibitions and festivals, including at Montréal’s BIAN, Lyon’s Mirage Festival, HEK Basel, Mexico’s Material Art Fair and Berlin’s Atonal, the Whitney Museum of Art and the Museum of the Moving Image New York.
