Argentinian experimental duo of María Mar Pérez and Macarena Fuentes

Whisky is a theater, music and performance project instigated one evening in 2014, when Macarena Fuentes and Maria Mar Perez found themselves roaming the streets of Salta, Argentina, with a full flask and crashed a party. The overwhelming urge to change the song, led to the spontaneous creation of their DJ identities. Experimentation and nomadism characterize this duo, and over six years they have occupied diverse genres, cities and sectors. Mar and Maka’s subsequent productions favour synthesizers and vocoders in service of a dark and diffuse soundtrack for the theatrical and performative works that they design and direct—while raising and making visible the social and gender issues that are latent in their dissident and Third World bodies. Like good film buffs, their DJ sets or mixes are a combination of their favourite movie excerpts and a selection of tracks that range from techno to dark wave, dance and electronica, mixed with ambient sounds and field recordings. Their latest collaborations include making music for visual pieces, shorts and feature films by independent artists.
